The travelling carrier, running at the base flange at the rails, is for automatic shunting layouts, and comprises chassis (2), fitting for attachment to traction media, one or more engaging elements which can swivel in and out, and running gear with roller sets attached. The latter runs with rollers in the fishplate inset of the associated rails, on the rail base flange, while guide rollers are led on the rail webs. On the front and/or rear end (14) of the travelling carrier (1) the roller sets (7) are mounted so as to be directed about a vertical axis (15), and are connected by a guide-rod (17) running across the carrier's longitudinal axis (16). The roller sets (7) pref. comprise a longitudinal bar (18), a running-roller block (19), with running-rollers (8), attached to this, and one or more guide-roller blocks (20) also on the bar - small-radius curves can be negotiated without difficulty.
