Chromizing plant - provides high quality coating at lower cost in reduced time

Chromizing plant includes a furnace mounted on a frame-work and pivotally mounted about its transverse axis. A gear is provided for tilting the furnace about its transverse axis. A retort mounted within the furnace includes a working chamber with a charging/discharging door, and an auxiliary chamber. The chambers communicate through a relatively short, elongated throat section and a cover closes the charging/discharging door of the retort. A screw element is fixed in the throat section and a partition mounted in front of the screw on the retort side has holes sufficient to let grains of the chromium-containing material pass through but insufficient to allow the passage of articles being treated. Tubes supply gas to the retort and a tube discharge gaseous products from the retort. Reagents are introduced into the working chamber through a tube. A rotating drive is provided whereby in one direction of pivot and a first direction of retort rotation the auxiliary chamber may be charged with granular material. In the reverse directions of pivot and potation the granular material is transferred to a working chamber. For chromizing metal articles such as elements bushing-roller chain joints diesel engine fuel apparatus and gas turbine burner nozzles. The plant has reliability in service and a better quality chromized surface is produced.
