A hydraulically operated disc brake on a vehicle wheel has a dual hydraulic circuit to improve the safety aspect of the braking system. The brake disc assembly consists of two parallel brake rings, attached to the wheel rim so that they revolve together with the wheel. An annular cylinder assembly, carried by the support bracket is located between the brake rings so that the friction plates attached to it are next to the two brake rings. The piston has a symmetrical step so that each half has its own cylinder chamber. Each chamber is then pressurised by an independent hydraulic line to obtain a dual brake system.
