<p>Compression moulding appts. has a first stationary mould member and a second movable mould member which in a closed position together with a relatively rigid insert define a mould cavity, a matl. receiving area and a transfer area. A press ram is connected via a first spring to the second mould member to effect movement thereof, and via a second spring to a matl. moving member to effect transfer of moulding matl. from the receiving area through the transfer area into the mould cavity. Appts. is used for moulding a seal assembly having a rigid metal insert. During a moulding operation the first and second parts first engage and securely hold the insert and form with the insert a mould cavity, then matl is transferred to the mould cavity until it is full, excess matl. being left in the receiving or transfer areas and not forced out as excess flash.</p> |
