<p>Light-collecting system (fluorescent collector) contains a perylene carboxylic acid, ester, amide or cyclic imide dyestuff (I) of formula (I) R is H or a (substd.) hydrocarbyl or heterocyclic gp. Y is O or NR. R1 is H or -CO-Y-R. n = 0-16. If R1 is -CO-Y-R, it can form a cyclic imide structure with the -CO-Y-R gp. in the peri-position. Fluorescent collectors are useful in conjunction with solar cells, in scintillators, electronically-controlled displays with very low energy consumption and non-electronic (passive) displays, direction and marking devices, e.g. traffic signs. (I) absorbs diffuse incident radiation and emits almost without loss into an optically denser medium, most of the emission light remaining totally reflected in the medium. They give a good quantum yield and high intensification factor, making them economical in use.</p> |
