PURPOSE:To obtain a new phenylimine which develops yellow to orange colors, when it contacts with an electron-accepting color developer such as a metal salt of organic or inorganic acids, phenolic compounds or aromatic carboxylic acids or with an oxidizing agent such as a substituted p-benzoquinone. CONSTITUTION:This phenylimine is expressed by formula [R is an alkyl an alkoxy a dialkyl-amino; R<1> is an alkyl, an alkoxy; Y is formula II (R<2> and R<3> are each an alkyl, benzyl; R<4> is H, an alkyl), formula III (R<5> is H, an alkyl; R<6> is H, an alkyl), formula TV (R<7> is H, an alkyl); m, n are 0-2], for example, 4,4'-bis-dimethylaminobenzophenone-phenylimine. The compound of formula I where Y is a group of formula II is obtained by reaction of a benzanilide derivative of formula V with a substituted aniline derivative of formula VI. The compound of formula I is useful as a color-developing compound for recording materials. |
