The temperature measuring device for food being cooked in a pot or similar, has a body (1) with a clip (2) projecting from its stem, which fits over the edge (4) of the pot. The device has a temperature measuring element (6) at the end of the stem, so that it is immersed in the food (5) when clipped on. At the top is a head containing members which include an alarm device. The head incorporates an electronic circuit (8), a battery (9) an off/on switch (11) an LED (12) for visual indication that the switch is on, and a summing circuit (10). A magnetic device can be used instead of a clip. The circuit can include an amplifier, comparator or trigger circuits, and an audible warning can be operated. A ballast weight can be incorporated, and a protuberance (7) on the stem keeps it away from contact with the side of the pot.
