The gas insulated medium voltage switching arrangement of compact design has a collector rail box (2) mounted on vertical supports (1) on a horizontal base frame. Each side of the supports are frames (9) for the connectors (5) on the ends of the cables. Each side of the box are flanged connections (10) for the switching units (3), back to back. This arrangement can be used with a fuse box mounted on top, spanning the switching units. The overall length of the fuse box is equal to the overall depth of the assembly.
