PURPOSE:To simply and accurately detect tensile load to be applied to a buried sheet by a method in which the elongation amount of sheet is measured, and the measured values are referred to a working curve showing the relation between the elongation amount and the tensile load. CONSTITUTION:A sheet piece 16 is extended in accordance with the amount of soil 14 raked out and its square meshes are expanded. The piece 16 alone is taken out and the interval of fibers is measured. The measured values in terms of vertical and lateral elongation ratios are referred to a working curve showing the relation between the elongation ratio and the tensile load. From the elongation ratios, tension to be applied to the vertical and lateral biaxial directions of a gas-permeable sheet 12 is detected rapidly. Highly accurate data can thus be obtained without influence on the measuring accuracy even when the sheet is laid in curved or distorted state.
