PURPOSE:To utilize the rays which are heretofore not usable for display in display to brighten display images by providing a microoptical system to a liquid crystal panel and imaging incident luminous fluxes in the picture element electrode region of the liquid crystal panel by the microoptical system. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal panel has the microoptical system 6. The microoptical system 6 is arranged two-dimensionally with microlenses. Collimated beams of light are utilized as the incident rays to the liquid crystal panel from the viewpoint of improvement in the image quality with a projector, etc., using the liquid crystal panel as a light valve. The greater art of the incident luminous fluxes on the liquid crystal panel are entered to the picture element electrode region by the microoptical system constituted of the meniscus microlens arrays provided on the incident side of the liquid crystal panel. The greater part of the incident luminous fluxes on the liquid crystal panel are imaged on the picture element region by providing the microoptical system to the liquid crystal in such a manner, by which the display images are brightened. |
