PURPOSE:To prevent generation of discharge from the surface between a display electrode and a connection electrode when a panel is used by applying a voltage higher than a display operation voltage to a position between drive wave supply buses constructed at both ends of one substrate, before the panel is used. CONSTITUTION:Drive wave supply buses 23 (23-1 to 23-4), 24 (24-1 to 24-4) are arranged on both ends of a display electrode 25 of one of substrates 21 and are in a discharge space 33 inside a seal part 34. One display electrode, e.g., 25-1 forms two drive wave supply buses 23-1, 24-1 and connection electrodes 25a-1, 25b-1 for forming connection capacity, respectively. Preceding to the use of a panel, a voltage higher than normal display operation voltage is applied to the section between the electrodes 25a-1, 25b-1 so as to generate discharge between the connection electrode and display electrode ends, thus applying a coat of metal scattered onto the upper face of a discharge protection layer 32. It is thus possible to prevent generation of discharge in the connection and display electrodes with the display voltage. |
