The invention relates to a coded tool insert with a tool in a tool holder. To provide a design which is simple from the point of view of manufacture and is advantageous in use and in which the subsequent fitting of existing tool inserts in particular is to be possible in an efficient manner, the invention proposes that a certain additional electrical resistor (22) be arranged in the tool holder (1) for the analogical coding, and that the tool insert can be individualized via an electrical resistance measurement.
