PURPOSE:To obtain a defect free recording image even when abnormality is generated in an emitting means by performing interpolation recording by other recording element with respect to the recording area of a recording element not subjected to recording. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle (non-emitting nozzle) in which abnormality is generated is detected prior to printing. At the time of printing, the image data corresponding to a non-emitting nozzle group 202 is removed to perform printing. Next, sub-scanning feed is performed by the width of the non-emitting nozzle group 202 and a nozzle good in an emitting state is opposed to a white stripe part. Next, at the time of the return scanning of a recording head, the image data of a part not printed in the scanning of the previous time is printed using the good nozzle to interpolate the white strip part. As a result, a defect free image is printed. Thereafter, the feed in a sub-scanning direction is performed so as to apply recording to a next recording area and the aformentioned operation is repeated. By this constitution, even when abnormality is generated in an emitting means, a defect free recording image can be obtained. |
