PURPOSE: To obtain a novel dye donor for use in a thermal dye sublimation transfer method by incorporating a binder and a specific dye in a dye layer on a support. CONSTITUTION: This dye donor element for use in a thermal dye sublimation transfer comprises a binder and a dye layer containing a dye corresponding to the formula (where R<1> is NR<4> R<5> , OR<6> or SR<6> , R<2> is a hydrogen, cyano, COR<7> , CO2 R<7> , CONR<8> R<9> , SO2 R<10> , Y is an arbitrary substituent, n is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, where when the (n) is larger than 1, a Y-substituent may be the same or different or forms a united ring, R<3> is a residue of a heterocyclic amine R<3> -NH2 , R<4> to R<9> are each a hydrogen, an alkyl or the like, and R<10> is a hydroxy or the like) on a support.
