PURPOSE:To provide a method and a device with which registering can be done automatically in a short time with high accuracy, in a multicolor printer. CONSTITUTION:Plate cylinder units 1-4 print register marks on a sheet 6 at every color. An absolute encoder 9 is connected to a pivot of a machine cylinder 7. An image processing section 15 converts an image captured from an image pickup camera at every output pulse of the encoder into a digital image data. A calculation/control section 17 receives the image data from the image processing section. When the image of the register mark is detected in a window, the control section 17 calculates a displacement of the encoder from a reference position so as to obtain a first error of the register mark, and calculates a deviation of a center of gravity of the register mark image in the window from a window origin so as to obtain a second error. Based on the first and second errors, a control signal for controlling the positional deviations of the plate cylinder units is outputted. |
