PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a white bacterium useful for producing a cosmetic improved in appreciation, etc., capable of inexpensively and simply providing a white sphingoglycolipid-containing composition having moisture retaining effects and preventing effects on chapped skin, comprising a bacterium belonging to the genus Sphingomonas. SOLUTION: This bacterium belongs to the genus sphingoglycolipid or the genus Sphingomonas paucimobilis and is selected from the group consisting of Sphingomonas paucimobilis KFC-W1 (FERM P-16,238), Sphingomonas paucimobilis MK-253W (FERM-P 16,693), Sphingomonas paucimobilis MK254W (FERM P-16694) and Sphingomonas paucimobilis (MK-332W P-16695). The white bacterium is a variant of a colored bacterium belonging to the genus Sphingomonas. Preferably the white bacterium is extracted to produce a white sphingoglycolipid-containing composition. |
