METHOD FOR REGENERATION OF SULFONATED AROMATIC ORGANIC POLYMER ION EXCHANGE RESIN BED WITH INACTIVATED AMINOORGANOMERCAPTAIN GROUP

PURPOSE: To obtain phenol discharge liquid not containing hydroxyacetone by treating until a phenolic reaction product in a phenolic reaction mixture formed of a mixture of a trisphenol type reaction product and phenol has less than a prescribed amount. CONSTITUTION: The method for regenerating a deactivated sulfonated aromatic organic polymeric ion-exchange resin having chemically modified aminoorganomercaptan groups is firstly to contact the deactivated organic polymeric ion-exchange resin with anhydrous phenol having from about 0 to about 0.01 wt.% of water at temperature of 70-120 deg.C. As a result of this contact, a phenolic reaction mixture is formed consisting essentially of a mixture of phenol and a trisphenol reaction product, and the treatment is executed until the phenolic reaction mixture has less than about 1 ppm of the phenolic reaction product as determined by HPLC.
