PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine not causing a large disadvantage of a fuel consumption ration while inhibiting an NOx production amount to a low level. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine is provided with an internal combustion engine body 1; a suction system 2 for introducing a suction gas to the internal combustion engine body 1; an exhaust system 3 for discharging an exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine body 1; an exhaust gas reflux passage 13 for refluxing the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust gas system 3 to the suction system 2; an exhaust gas re-circulation amount control valve 15 adjusting a flow rate of the exhaust gas refluxed and provided in the exhaust gas reflux passage; an oxygen enrichment device 5 for making a material oxygen enriched air by enhancing an oxygen concentration in the air; a material oxygen enriched air feed passage 5a for introducing this material oxygen enriched air to the suction system; a material oxygen enriched air feed amount control valve 6 provided in the material oxygen enriched air feed passage 5a; an oxygen sensor for detecting an oxygen concentration in the oxygen enriched air produced by mixing a usual air in which a oxygen is not enriched and the material oxygen enriched air; and a control device 11 for adjusting an open degree of the material oxygen enriched air feed amount control valve 6 based on the oxygen concentration detected by this oxygen sensor 8.
