PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable traveling vehicle which detects the device which can give high certainty to data obtained in favorable environment and will not handle data obtained in adverse environment. SOLUTION: The traveling vehicle detecting device, which measures the speed and position of the traveling vehicle by an image sensor has an input means for an image, an input image range determining means, a means for calculating the mean luminosity and a means for calculating the mean edge intensity in the specific area in the image that the range determining means determines, a means for calculating the certainty of a processing result from the outputs of the luminosity calculating means and the edge calculating means, a decision means, which makes a decision according to the speed and position information detected by the speed and position detecting means, and a means which presents the output information of the decision means to a driver.
