PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-soluble lubricant which is used for metal working, does not have a problem in safety and environmental fields, and has both excellent processability and grease removability. SOLUTION: This water-soluble lubricant used for the metal working comprises (A)≤75 mass % of water, (B) 5 to 70 mass % of a dimer acid, a trimer acid or their salts, (C) 1 to 50 mass % of at least one metal salt selected from metal organic phosphates, metal organic phosphites, metal organic phosphonates and metal organic borates, and (D) 10 to 80 mass % of a nonionic surfactant.
