PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine which operates without consuming power unnecessarily for the on/off control of an illumination apparatus. SOLUTION: The drum type washing machine having a door 9 for opening and closing a laundry article entrance 6 at a front surface part 1a and having the illumination apparatus 34 within a drum 20 is provided with a capacitor 54 at a DC power source part 50a which rectifies an AC power source 51 to DC. The capacitor 54 stores in the case of supplying power, and charge is kept when supplying no power. Between the capacitor 54 and an LED 34a of the illumination apparatus 34, a contact 72 of a door switch 45 to be turned on/off linked with opening/closing of the door 9 is provided. Even when supplying no power, the door switch 45 is turned on by only opening the door 9, and a conducting path of the capacitor 54 and the LED 34a is conducted, so that light is emitted from the LED 34a toward the drum.
