PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can improve image quality and can also reduce a processing burden for detecting the end of a recording medium. SOLUTION: A process of detecting the end of the recording medium (S413) is prohibited in the case of the small feeding of conveying recording paper by a first conveyance amount (S405:No), and carried out in the case of the large feeding of conveying the recording medium by a second conveyance amount larger than the first conveyance amount (S405:Yes). In comparison with the case that the end is detected every time the recording medium is conveyed, the detection number of times is reduced, and the processing burden for detecting the end is alleviated. Moreover, the detection of the end is carried out when the recording medium is conveyed once by the second conveyance amount larger than the first conveyance amount.
