VERTICAL WRITING HEAD WITH STEP TYPE FLARE STRUCTURE, AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with such a problem that there exists strong needs that a flare point of a vertical writing head and throat height of a magnetic shield are decided accurately, and that development for controllable structure or controllable method of construction are required, and then such structure and the method of construction must be provided by using a tool and a process which can be utilized in the present. SOLUTION: A magnetic writing head 302 has a step type magnetic shell part 494 prescribing a second flare point FP2. The second flare point prescribed by the magnetic shell part is controlled strictly with respect to the distance from an air bearing surface (ABS) of the writing head. Also this flare point is controlled more strictly than a conventional flare point positioned on a main pole structure photolithographically. Thereby, the effective flare point of the writing head can be made to come more closely to ABS than the extent achievable by utilizing a tool which is utilized presently and photography technology.
