PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an austenitic stainless steel which shows a rupture elongation of 15% or more in a creep test at 750°C for longer than 10,000 hrs, shows an impact resistance value of 50 J/cm<SP>2</SP>or more at 0°C after the stainless steel has been heated at 750°C for a long period of 10,000 hrs, does not easily cause aged deterioration, and is superior in workability such as weldability and sectility after the long period of use. SOLUTION: The austenitic stainless steel for use in high temperature superior in workability after the long period of use comprises, 0.03 to 0.12% C, 0.2 to 2% Si, 0.1 to 3% Mn, more than 18% but less than 25% Ni, more than 22% but less than 30% Cr, 0.1 to 1% Nb, 0.01 to 1% V, more than 0.0005% but 0.2% or less B, 0.0005% or more but less than 0.03% sol. Al, 0.1 to 0.35% N, 0.001 to 0.008% O, and the balance Fe with unavoidable impurities, while controlling P, S, Sn, Pb, Sb, Zn and As in the impurities so as to satisfy the expressions of P≤0.03%, S≤0.01%, Sn≤0.020%, Pb≤0.010%, Sb≤0.005%, Zn≤0.005%, As≤0.005%, Sn(%)+Pb(%)≤0.025% and Sb(%)+Zn(%)+As(%)≤0.010%, respectively.
