PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for controlling the combustion in a hot blast stove with which the input heat quantity into each stove can be optimized under restricting conditions on the facility and on the operation. SOLUTION: In the method for controlling the combustion in the hot blast stove, in which the hot blasting having the desirable temperature and the flowing rate, is supplied to a blast furnace with the plurality of hot blast stove sets 12, this operation of the hot blast stove is performed as the following processes, that a process, in which the input heat quantity in each stove, is made to the input power and the heat level in the blasting period in each stove is made to the output power, and the predicting value of the heat level transition from the next blasting period to the future second section to the time-series of the input heat quantity from the present to the future first section, by using a model showing a moving characteristic between the input power and the output power; a process, in which the time-series of the input heat quantity in each stove in the above first section, is obtained so as to optimize the pre-decided evaluation function in the restricting range of pre-giving on the operation/or on the facility based on this predicted values; and a process, in which the input heat quantity is adjusted in each stove, based on the input heat quantity corresponding to the present time in the time-series of the input heat quantity in each stove.
