The device (1) has a handgrip (2) fitted with a cleaning attachment (3), with a light source (4) within the handgrip. The light source supplies light which is fed along the cleaning attachment for illuminating the end (5) inserted in the mouth. Pref. the light source provides light of a given wavelength, or the wavelength range is selected via an associated optical filter. The obtained light is fed to the end of the cleaning attachment via an optical fibre waveguide.
