A method of predicting a radiation pattern emitted by at least one energy applicator of a plurality of energy applicators, the method comprising: imaging a first target region during the application of energy thereto via the at least one energy applicator of the plurality of energy applicators; storing time-series of images along with a thermal profile for each of the plurality of energy applicators in a library; storing a plurality of parameters associated with each of the plurality of energy applicators in the library; calculating a specific absorption rate (SAR) of each energy applicator of the plurality of energy applicators from the images, the SAR calculated by factoring design of each of the plurality of energy applicators, ablation time, wattage of the ablation energy, and tumor size and location; selecting one of the plurality of energy applicators; imaging a second target region for which a radiation pattern prediction is desired; providing the thermal profile for the selected energy applicator; and generating a simulated radiation pattern for the selected energy applicator as a function of the calculated SAR around the selected energy applicator.
