A method for operating a memory device comprises: determining whether a target row address corresponding to an access address is repaired, by a controller; providing adjacent row addresses of an adjacent word line adjacent to a word line corresponding to the target row address of a first bank and a second bank included in a merged bank based on whether the target row address is repaired, by the controller; and transmitting the adjacent row addresses to a row decoder through the same row address lines, by a row address circuit. The method for operating a memory device according to embodiments of the present invention can reduce the chip size of a memory device by providing the adjacent row addresses through the same row address lines by the row address circuit included in the memory device.
