A jet-pipe movable from a horizontal to a downwardly directed position for deflecting exhaust gases from a turbojet comprises a stationary pipe section 1 and second and third pipe sections 2, 3, rotatable relative to each other about their longitudinal axes the inlet and outlet faces of the second and third sections being inclined with respect to each other, an actuator 7 which through a transmission 8 drives two arcuate gear segments 13, 18 simultaneously in opposite directions, the gear segment 13 being connected to the first rotatable section through a plane bearing 21 riding on bearings 22, 24 encircling the outlet end of the stationary section, the gear segment 18 rotating on a ball race 23 on bearing 21 and a bevel gear segment 25 being fixed to gear 18 meshes with a corresponding bevel gear segment 26 fixedly mounted on the second rotatable section 3. To rotate a fourth section 4 a gear segment 28 fixed to the second section 2 drives a gear segment 29 fixed to the fourth section 4 through transmission gears 30, 31 located on the surface of section 3. In the initial horizontal position of the deflector the gear segments 28, 29 on sections 2 and 4 oppose each other across the shortest side of wedge-shaped section 3. The bevel gear segments 25, 26 are so mounted that in rotation they ride above segment 28. By driving gear segments 13, 18 in opposite directions but with gear 18 rotating faster than gear 13 (the ratio is 1:1À1) intermediate section 3 rotates in the opposite direction to sections 2 and 4. Arcuate gears 13, 18 subtend an angle of 90 to 120 degrees whereas gears 25, 26, 28, 29 subtend angles at their centres of 180 to 240 degrees. |
