1,249,218. Organic hydroperoxides. SUN OIL CO. 28 Feb., 1969 [1 March, 1968], No. 10837/69. Heading C2C. Hydrocarbons of the general formula in which R is C 1 -C 6 alkyl, R 1 is H or C 1 -C 6 alkyl or R and R 1 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a C 4 -C 7 cycloalkyl ring; and A is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl radical, are oxidized to the corresponding hydroperoxide compounds by treatment with oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas at elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst comprising a cuprous halide and a heterocyclic amine of aromatic character. Suitable starting materials are, for example, p-diisopropylbenzene, see.-butylbenzene, isopropyl naphthalene, p-cymene and phenyl cyclohexane. Examples are given of the conversion of cumene to cumyl hydroperoxide. |
