A fork lift mast assembly is pivotally supported on the chassis of the tractor of a tractortrailer combination so as to be movable between an inboard position, adjacent the rear of the cab and an outboard position beyond the side of the chassis. The mast assembly is mounted on a beam 25 which is rotatable on a pillar 21 supported on a triangular base-plate 13 connected to the chassis by two hydraulic rams and a ball-and-socket joint whereby the mast assembly may be tilted laterally and longitudinally of the tractor. Rollers on the beam 25 engage arcuate tracks on the base-plate and an hydraulic ram 24 is provided for moving the mast assembly about the pillar 21. The undersides of the fork arms of the assembly are formed with racks which engage pinions on the lifting carriage, the pinions being driven by an hydraulic motor through endless chains to extend and retract the fork arms.
