Non reducing catalysts for ammonia - synthesis

Catalysts are prepared by a two-stage process: (1) Fe is gradually oxidised (pref. 16 mins. O2 at 0.15 hg/cm2) to FeO, with simultaneous addition of the usual activating agents (2-4 agents may be used) and (2) the molten FeO is rapidly oxidised (pref. 3 mins, O2 at 2 hg/cm2) to Fe3O4. They are non-hygroscopic and stable to compression, and heating.
