[Also in Division A2] Puffed cereal products having a hollow conical shape are made by feeding two strips of cooled dough 32, 34 between counter-rotating wheels 22 each of which is furnished with a blunt zig-zag peripheral cutting blade (20) {see Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). Between adjacent limbs of the blade on each wheel is a semipyrimidal cavity 26 which cavity co-operates, during the rotation of the wheels, with a corresponding cavity in the other wheel thus forming a series of full pyrimidal cavities, alternate cavities opening in opposite directions. As the sheets are passed between the rotating wheels they are cut transversely by the blades (the sheets being united along the cut) and are deformed into the cavities to form a series of hollow conical pieces, alternate ones of which also open in opposite directions. The pieces thus formed are then dried and subsequently puffed. |
