Laminated plastics or rubber floor mat for motor vehicles Is formed by placing the rubber cover layer into a mould, placing the blank of cushioning material over the cover layer and bonding a base layer to the edges of the coverlayer, whilst leaving transverse marginal openings spaced around the perimeter of the rubber mat, the openings being connected by means of nozzles to a source of vacuum for partial evacuation of the air entraned in the mat interior. Following evacuation the openings are closed by stoppers or bonding by an adhesive.
