Water-soluble, heat curable condensates are prepared by condensation of (a) 1 mol glycidyl ether of an aliphatic or aromatic compound contng. at least 2 hydroxy groups, (b) 0.1-1 mol of a completely methylolated aminotriazine, and (c) 0.8-1 mol alkanolamine, whose alkanol groups contains 2-4 C atoms. The condensation is carried out by (1) carefully heating the mixture so that water distils, (2) increasing the temp. above 100 deg. until the viscosity begins to rise sharply, (3) cooling the mixture, and (4) adding a monofunctional, saturated C1-4 alcohol, and/or neutralising with dilute aqueous acid, in order to stop the reaction. |
