A method of driving foundation piles and in conjunction therewith determining a safe maximum of the load carrying capacity of the piles driven comprises driving a pipe and a core member surrounded by the pipe, placing a yoke on the top of the pipe, exerting a controllable force between the top of the core and the yoke, determining the vertical value of the force at which relative displacement of the pipe and the core member takes place and filling with concrete the cavity within the pipe or formed by the pipe if then removed. The controllable force is produced and registered by a pump and pressure gauge connected to a hydraulic jack between the yoke and the core. Twice the initial value of the force, i.e. pressure registered, at which relative displacement of the pipe and core takes place is the safe maximum load carrying capacity of the finished foundation pile. |
