Apparatus for forming circumferential grooves 12, Fig. 6, and a radially inward extending flange 13 at or adjacent one end of a helically corrugated metal pipe 15 comprises a pair of co-operating forming rolls 21, 22 carried on a frame 17, a ram 24 for reducing the distance between the rolls and for applying pressure to completely deform the pipe end disposed therebetween, a drive 23 for rotating the rolls and pipe through a single revolution, a guide plate 25 interposed between the rolls and frame extending outwardly and upwardly from the rolls and being dimensioned such that abutment of the end of the pipe to be deformed against the plate ensures production of a continuous radial flange 13 at the pipe end. In operation the pipe end is inserted between the rollers 21, 22 and held against the guide plate 25 so that no more than 3 high points N on the pipe contact the plate 25. The roller 21 is moved downwardly until there is bottoming of the roller and the pipe is then rotated through one revolution such that the helical corrugations screw towards the roller mechanism. |
