Polyolefin tape is produced from a blend of (A) 50-90% of a crystallisable poly-1-olefin and (B) 10-50% of any other polyolefin. The blend is melt-extruded as a wide film, drawing is effected at a temp. below the crystallite m.p. of polyolefin (A) in the direction of extrusion and the film is lit into tapes before or after drawing. The tape is resistant to fibrillation and can be used in weaving machinery without splitting. The tape is pref. used in the weaving of relatively coarse fabrics, e.g. sacks, carpet backing, braiding and filter cloth. The tape is normally 0.5-4 mils thick and 50-500 mils wide. |
