In an electro-photographic process in which toner is applied to an electrostatic image on a surface, the toner image then being transferred or projected, the residual toner, instead of being removed from the surface, is redistributed on the surface during toner application in the next cycle according to the electrostatic image thereon. An endless belt 1 having at least a photoconductive layer 7 and a transparent conductive layer 8 is moved through a series of stations which include a corona charging station 2, an exposure station 3, a toning station 4 and a transfer station 5. At the transfer station the toner is transferred to a surface 6 leaving some residual toner on the belt. The residual toner does not interfere with the subsequent exposure because it is accomplished through the transparent support. At the toning station 4, a magnetic brush, in the course of brushing the surface, tends to redistribute the residual toner into the desired areas as well as adding more toner. |
