In a centrifuge of the kind described in Specification 930,159 the first disc set section 10 has a substantially smaller overall diameter than the second disc set section 11. The centrifuge may be used for separating a mixture of whey, cream and cheese grains into its respective components. It is stated that, as a result of this construction, owing to the considerable radial distance between the outer edge of the divider disc 12 and the outer edges of the discs in the first disc set section 10 the whey passes practically completely inwardly through the section 10 and thence through the passage 13 into the second section 11 where the remainder of the cream in the whey is separated out and discharged into the chamber 14. The whey is thus prevented from leaking past the outer edge of the disc 12 and reaching the heavy liquid discharge passage 16 without its content of cream having had any opportunity of being separated out. |
