A multifilment, nylon yarn (which may have been compressively crimped) has uniform, regularly occurring constrictions formed along the length thereof by imposing a compulsory oscillation on the travelling yarn between two fixed points, defined by thread guides, under the action of a gas stream flowing perpendicularly to the direction of travel of the yarn and through which stream the yarn travels twice in each oscillation period. The yarn is fed to the zone between the guides at a speed 5-50%. higher than withdrawal therefrom. In the blowing device shown, a compressed air supply pipe 11 terminates in a "mouthpiece" 13 having a nozzle 12 facing a resonance plate 14. A sleeve 15 comprises slots 16 constituting the thread guides and bores 18 which prevent any back pressure of air in the space between plate 14 and nozzle 12 thereby, making possible the yarn oscillation. |
