A plate heat exchanger comprises a pack of plates 8, 9 assembled face to face in a frame and having peripheral sealing gaskets defining fluid flow spaces between adjacent plates, the plates being formed with corrugations having troughs 8a, 9a and crests 8b, 9b respectively which are inclined to the normals to the lateral edge of the plates. The corrugations in the adjacent plates are arranged to cross and contact crest to trough to provide interplate support within the flow spaces and the troughs and/or crests are formed with subsidiary corrugations S, T to provide zones of reduced depth or height respectively. The plates are formed by pressing and the subsidiary corrugations are formed by pressing into moulds having cut-away portions. |
