1291928 Isomerizing alkylaromatics BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 22 Dec 1970 [30 Jan 1970] 4687/70 Heading C5E A C 8 -C 15 alkylaromatic feedstock is isomerized by contact at 350-550‹ C. and 0-1500 p.s.i.g. in the presence of H 2 with a catalyst comprising a hydrogenating component and an alkali-metal deficient zeolite of the chabazite group. This group consists of gonelinite, chabazite, erionite, zeolite T, offretite, levynite and carerinite hydrate, each have a pore size of 3-6 Š. The hydrogenating component may be Co, Ni, Pt, Pd or Ag used in amount 0À1-5 wt. per cent. The isomerization may form a step in a separation process, wherein a polymethylbenzene, e.g. p-xylene, is separated and the remaining feedstock, comprising other C 8 -C 9 alkylbenzenes, is isomerized, the product fractionated, if necessary, to remove higher and lower hydrocarbons, and the isomerized product, at least in part, recycled to the separation step. |
