Rolling mill chatter control to reduce wear

Suppression of chatter in a rolling mill is effected by an electrical control signal derived from the vibration which is used to reduce the speed of the rolling mill drive automatically for as long as the chatter occurs, after which the speed is increased again to the nominal rate. - The current derived from the vibrations is pref. a pulsating d.c. current. - Improved workpiece finish and general reduction in wear is achieved.
