Particulate catalyst is circulated between a reactor and a regenerator and in the regenerator the catalyst is regenerated by being maintained as a fluidized particle bed in an oxygen-containing gas stream the improvement comprising: (a) removing substantially all particles from the gas stream flowing from the regenerator; (b) classifying the particle removed therefrom into a large particle fraction and a smaller particle fraction; (c) returning the larger particle fraction to the catalytic cracking process; and (d) expanding the gas stream flowing from the regenerator in a power-generating turbine after particles are removed from the gas stream in step (a).
