1335424 Slitting pile fabrics MANUFACTURES JEAN-BAPTISTE MARTIN, JEAN MARTIN, ANDRE CHARBIN & CIE 14 June 1971 [22 June 1970] 27725/71 Heading D1S A slitting device for separating face-to-face pile fabrics to form velvet or plush comprises a slitting blade 7 placed between two tension rollers 9, 13 over each of which there passes, after slitting, a base fabric 2, 3 which is then drawn off by a roller 10, 14, the roller 10 being directly rotated by a power reduction unit 12, and being connected to a planet pinion 17 of a differential mechanism 16, another planet pinion 18 of the mechanism 16 being connected to the roller 14, the planet carrier 24 of the mechanism 16 being connected to be rotatably driven by a stop motor 26 arranged to be rotated through an angle in a direction which are both determined by electrical signals from signalling means which compares the tension of the fabrics 2, 3 passing over the rollers 9, 13. As shown, the fabric to be slit, comprising two woven or knitted base fabrics 2, 3 separated by pile threads 3, passes between two stationary guide plates 5, 6. The knife 7 is mounted in a guide 8. Gears 19, 20, Fig. 3, connect the drive shaft 11 of the roller 10 to the planet pinion 17 and gears 21, 22 connect the drive shaft 15 of the roller 14 to the pinion 18. Satellite pinions 23 mesh with the pinion 17, 18 and are supported by the carrier 24 integral with a shaft 25 connected to the motor 26. Shafts 29, 30, Fig. 2, supported by the guide 8, each have two radial arms 31, 42 keyed thereon. Rods 32, 43 connect the arms 31, 42 to arms 33, 44, the joining of arms 33, 44 and rods 32, 43 being made by shafts 34, 45 carrying the rollers 9, 13, respectively. The rollers 9, 13 are urged in the direction of arrows 35, 46 either by weights 36, 39 or by springs. The shaft 34 is pivoted at one end to a lever 47, Fig. 6, pivotable about a fixed pivot 48 and having a slot 49 therein in which a pin 50 of a cam 51 slides. Movement of the arm 31 displaces the cam 51 which has three steps 54, 55, 56 against which a tripping arm 57 of a three position microswitch 58 rests. Similarly, the shaft 45 actuates a lever 59 controlling the displacement of a cam 61 having three steps 62, 63, 64 engaged by the tripping arm 65 of a three position microswitch 66. In operation, normally the motor 26 is at rest with the unit 12 driving the rollers 10, 14 at the same speed. If, due to difference in elasticity of the fabrics 2, 3, the fabric 3 lags, the roller 13 tends to be displaced in the direction of the arrow 46. This causes the cam 61 to be advanced so that a difference in the signals sent by the microswitches 58, 66 to the regulator of the motor 26 is produced. The motor 26 accelerates the roller 14 until the cam 61 is returned to the same position as the cam 51 in front of its respective microswitch. Alternatively, if the fabric 2 allows the roller 9 to move in the direction of the arrow 35 thus advancing the cam 51, the differential impulse causes the motor 26 to rotate in the opposite direction.
