Swivel joint is produced by casting round a central shaft forming the core onto the surface of which has been applied a high temp. resistant parting medium, which also acts as lubricant for the joint after casting and is not removed. Several joints may be cast round a single shaft. In the latter case it is recommended to employ high temp. lubricant coated parting discs. Surfaces to be bonded to the melt are left uncovered. This applies to the shaft and any bushes etc. which are part of the assembly. The process simplifies manufacture by doing away with the assembly step and permits simpler design of component parts.
