The polymer may be a homopolymer, copolymer or graft polymer of vinyl chloride or an olefin. The chlorine may be admixed with an inert gas, the polymer may be in particulate form, and the reaction effected in a fluidized bed. Examples describe the fluidized bed chlorination of (1 to 6) polyvinyl chloride, (7) vinyl chloride/propylene copolymer, (8 to 11) polypropylene, (12 and 13) polyethylene and (14 and 15) ethylene/propylene copolymer, using a mixture of chlorine and nitrogen containng elementary fluorine. |
