<p>1381865 Spinneret for conjugate filaments IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 April 1972 [20 April 1971] 10039/71 Heading B5B In a spinneret for the melt-spinning of sheath/ core conjugate filaments, a spinneret plate 1 has a number of spinneret orifices 2, communicating by way of lead-in cone 3 with confined space 4. A first entry aperture 5 communicates with space 4, and, by way of connecting passageway 6, with a central molten polymer feed duct 7 formed in a distributer 8 fed by feed pipe 18. A second feed aperture 9 situated to one side of the first aperture 5, communicates with the confined space 4, and, by way of a connecting passageway 10, with one of two outer molten polymer feed ducts 11, formed partly from spinneret plate 1 and partly from the distributer 8. The mode of operation is shown in Fig. 9, the second polymer enters the confined space at a point at its upstream end where it is widened, so as to form a thin sheet, the width of which exceeds the width of the confined space at the level of entry. Detailed construction of the spinneret is shown in Figs. 2-8 (not shown). The apparatus is especially suitable for the melt spinning of sheath-core conjugate filaments of which each of the components is a polyester, a polyamide or a polyolefin, and leads to the production of very eccentric sheath/core filaments. The production of polyethylene terephthalate filaments is exemplified.</p> |
