The compositions may be prepared by calcining at 400-800‹C in air a refractory oxide of specific surface of more than 15 m2/g and pore volume more than 0.1 cm3/g, acidifying the calcined support with 0.05-3N HCl until the pH of the solution is constant, impregnating the support with a solution having a concentration of 0.2-5 g/l of the metals and calcining the impregnated support in air at 250-550‹C. Examples describe Pt/Pb/Al 2 O 3 catalysts.
